The Bio
The roots of I Wish I Knew can be traced back to early 2005, at which team Jeroen was searching for a drummer and through a mutual acquaintance got hooked up with Erwin for a rehearsal studio session. Both being interested in styles like postrock and indie, they started a project working with different line-ups throughout that first year.
By the end of 2005 a new vocalist had been found in Anita, who added a more ethereal, 'wave'-like atmosphere to the music. In April 2006 both Simon and Jasper joined the band completing the final line-up and a few months later Wish I Knew did their first gig.
Unprecendented brainstorming in the beginning of 2007 finally resulted in the band's definite name, I Wish I Knew, which not only refers to one of their songs but also to the multi-directional way jams are worked out before they are eventually integrated into songs. Throughout that same year the band worked on writing and arranging songs while performing live intermittently.
In 2008 the band played The Netherlands regularly, with a few gigs in Germany and Belgium. In the summer the band recorded their debut album "The Bubble Revolution", which was presented at a fully loaded ACU in the centre of their hometown, Utrecht.
2008 also saw I Wish I Knew entering public awareness, with a number of reviews and articles being published for some of their shows and their new album. The original style of the band (the band itself addresses their style to influences of postrock, indie and shoegazer) is reflected in the collective confusion regarding how to classify the band's sound: they have been compared to the likes of My Bloody Valentine, Mogwai, The Cure and Dead Can Dance. Even bands like Jefferson Airplane and Portishead have been mentioned. Perhaps the most accurate description offered to date is that of an indie band with a new-wave sound seen from a new perspective.
In the spring of 2009 I Wish I Knew did their first tour in the United Kingdom, performing eight gigs in cities like London, Swansea, Nottingham and Birmingham, and returned home brimming with ideas. Since then the band has been in the rehearsal studio, working on new songs for their upcoming second album. Plans are being laid for some shows by the end of the year.
